Chelsea handed major Nicolas Jackson transfer update as Bayern Munich chief confirms stance

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has admitted Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is a player they would like to sign on loan.

Jackson fell down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the summer arrivals of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Joao Pedro from Brighton.

The Senegal international was suspended for the season opener against Crystal Palace then failed to make Enzo Maresca's squad for the following trip to West Ham United. Meanwhile Pedro has scored once and provided two assists, whilst Delap has featured in both games.

Chelsea are, therefore, allowing Jackson to leave and are still waiting for him to do so before they can press ahead with the desires to recruit Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons before next Monday's deadline.

Thankfully for the Blues, European rivals Bayern may oblige to help them in this effort.

The German champions contested a DFB-Pokal first round tie with third-tier side Wehen Wiesbaden on Wednesday night. Sporting director Eberl was in attendance and was questioned by broadcaster ZDF his plans for the final days of the transfer window.

"If we find a player who is physically ready, who can score goals and make assists, who already has experience – we would be happy to loan that player," he responded.

The reporter followed up asking the Bayern chief if Jackson meets that criteria.

Eberl replied: "When I read his CV, he can do it."

Whether Bayern would be amenable to including a purchase obligation or option in any potential loan deal is unclear at this stage. For Chelsea, a permanent sale would be preferable but this would be a temporary means to an end with little time left in the market.

Premier League clubs have until 7pm on Monday, September 1, to finalise any deals they are working on.

The urgency to part ways with Jackson does not come down to financial fair play but the Blues' standing against UEFA's strict cost-balancing enforcement after Chelsea breached spending rules last season.

The club were willing to accept a fine and punishment, however now Chelsea must come out equal, at least, on the cost of players going in and out of the squad from the Conference League knockout stages to the Champions League in September.

It means that selling Armando Broja, Renato Veiga, Joao Felix, others has not made a dent in the UEFA squad cost as they were not registered after the group phase. Noni Madueke did count, as would Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.

Effectively,if Chelsea want to add all of their new signings to their UEFA squad for the Champions League, they will have to sell those who played in the Conference League between February and May. If not, some of Maresca's new signings could be left out.
