Man Utd forced into shock transfer decision after injury nightmare before Arsenal season opener

Manchester United face a goalkeeping headache as Andre Onana is set to miss their pre-season tour with the Premier League curtain-raiser against Arsenal just over a month away. The Gunners make the trip to Old Trafford for a mouth-watering opening day encounter with the Red Devils as they look to heap pressure on Ruben Amorim.

Arsenal begin a difficult start to the season for United as they take on Chelsea and neighbours Manchester City inside the opening ten games of the campaign. According to The Telegraph, their preparations will be blighted as their Cameroon shot-stopper will miss the pre-season tour with a hamstring injury.

It has been said that the 29-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during the first week back at Carrington which could now spark United into further action in the transfer window.

The report claims that Amorim is weighing the possibilities in the market as he considers whether to sign a replacement goalkeeper in light of Onana's injury.

It adds that United are hopeful that he will make the start of the campaign but as it stands, they have Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton and Radek Vitek as possible contenders to replace him in the immediate future.

United kick off their pre-seson schedule against Leeds United in Sweden before flying out to the United States for encounters against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before they return to Old Trafford to face Fiorentina on the eve of the new campaign.

The report continues and suggests that a decision faces recruitment chiefs in the North West whether they need to look for cover or even competition for Onana - who made a number of high-profile mistakes last season.

As a result of his errors, he was dropped during the latter stages of the campaign with one of the notable occasions coming against Lyon in the Europa League, that saw him miss the trip to Newcastle United.

Despite the decision, Amorim defender his number one, at the time he said: "If you look at the season I've made more mistakes than them during these last games and during these last months.

"There's nothing I can say to Andre in this moment that will help him, so the most important thing is to be natural and then when the time comes I will choose the best XI to play.

"But I'm really confident in Andre.

"We continue to do the same thing. Training, seeing the games, trying to choose the best eleven to win every match."
