The latest development has revealed that the All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee will pick the Indian squad for the upcoming Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday, August 19. The squads are more or less finalized, but an official disclosure will be made through a press conference to be addressed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and his committee, according to latest reports circulating in the media.
If reports are to be believed, Test captain Shubman Gill will not be making it to the final squad, as the management is keen on sticking to a set combination of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson for the opening position, whereas, Tilak Varma is good to go at No. 3. Expected captain Suryakumar Yadav will bat at No. 4, and as a result, Gill hardly finds a spot in the T20I set-up.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is also set to miss out, or rather take rest from the tournament due to his workload management concerns. In his absence, left-arm speedster Arshdeep Singh is in the know to be leading the pace battery. Another report also mentioned of Yuzvendra Chahal’s comeback, but only an official announcement can confirm the same.
India face Pakistan on September 14The eight-team event will see India enter the tournament as the reigning champions, as they won the 2023 edition (played in 50-over format). They are placed in the Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, and will play once each against these sides in the group stage fixtures. If the Indians manage to finish in the top two of the points table at the end of group fixtures, they will advance to the Super Fours.
Their first game in the group stage schedule is against the UAE, whom they face on September 10. Their next game is going to be the most hyped and looked up to when they clash with arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai. The Indian team will end its group stage encounters with a match-up against Oman on September 19.
