Kolkata: In a veiled attack on the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday claimed that some outsider party ( BJP) is bringing voters from outside to prevent local voters from casting their votes and the names of multiple voters were registered against one name. Countering allegations on the state's law and order following the gang rape of a medical student a few days ago, she said people were still staying and working here which shows that Bengal is a safe state.
Stressing on the ' Bohiragoto' (outsider) concept, Banerjee said: "I referred to a particular party (BJP) who are bringing people from outside. They add the names of ten outsiders alongside the names of our voters, so that our voters cannot vote. I respect people from outside states who stay here. But, under the garb of elections, many outsiders come here illegally and stay there. How can one person have their name in two places?" "I warned my councillors to be vigilant, but my statements were misconstrued by the media. We believe in unity and the peaceful coexistence of people here. I have the right to scold my councillors and leaders," Banerjee said, while inaugurating a Kali puja in Kolkata.
