Friends, Happy Diwali to all of you, may your lives be filled with wealth, happiness, and prosperity.
Friends, today is Diwali, the biggest Hindu festival. It is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The five-day festival begins with Dhanteras, which was celebrated on October 18th. One of the most important traditions of Dhanteras is lighting the Yam Deepak in honor of Yamraj, the god of death. Some families light the lamp on the evening of Dhanteras, while others light it on Naraka Chaturdashi. But let's learn what to do with this Yam Deepak afterward.
How to Light the Yam Deepak
Take a four-sided earthen lamp and fill it with mustard oil.
Light four wicks in the lamp.
Place the lamp outside your home in the south direction in the evening.
Pray to Yamraj while lighting the lamp.
After the lamp extinguishes naturally, place it near your door or drain, then return home.
After Dhanteras
The day after Dhanteras, you can place the Yam Deepak under a tree or bury it in the soil. Do not throw it in the trash.
Alternatively, the lamp can be immersed in running water, but be careful not to leave it in a dirty or polluted area.
Important Actions
After the lamp extinguishes the next morning, donate the coins offered in it.
Distribute the rice from the lamp to the needy, or feed it to a cow or buffalo.
Following these steps not only keeps this tradition alive, but is also believed to bring prosperity to the home and protect it from negative energies.
