Coronation Street's Todd Grimshaw left on verge of tears after vicious attack

Send Push

Coronation Street's Todd Grimshaw was left on the verge of tears at the end of Monday night's episode after suffering a vicious attack at the hands of his own boyfriend.

The funeral director, who has been played by Gareth Pierce since 2020, has been dating Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) for almost six months now but fans of the ITV soap will know that the relationship has been taking a dark turn in recent weeks. He has already stopped him from going out socialising and has been seen slyly insulting him over his body amongst other things.

When Theo made his debut on the programme, he was introduced as a married man who had two kids with wife Danielle (Natalie Anderson) before it was revealed that he had been put through conversion therapy earlier in life. After his wife left him once his affair with Todd was exposed, she struck up a relationship with homophobic church clerk Noah Hedley (Richard Winsor) and he was once again involved in the latest instalment of the serial.

Theo had a family liaison meeting scheduled with Danielle, but to his annoyance, she had brought Noah along with her. Theo suggested that the best sort of idea would be a 50/50 arrangement when it came to seeing Miles and Millie, but Noah claimed that she had 'serious concerns' about her estranged husband.

She said: "I simply can't trust him to look after my children, just a few days ago, Miles found himself in trouble," to which Theo shot back: "Found himself in trouble? He attacked a man, a vicar, no less, fuelled by the homophobic rubbish that you and you put into his head."

Late on, Theo called Todd to tell him how the disastrous meeting had gone but was furious to hear that he was in the pub as he heard others laughing in the background. Struggling to cope, Theo hit the bottle and waited for Todd to come home as he continued to pour glass after glass.

When he found that Todd's outing at the pub had been posted on social media, he was less than impressed and things were only made worse when he saw a picture of Todd with Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), whom he had banned him from speaking to at the end of last week, jealous that they were now friends after previously having had a relationship.

Theo continued to wait and wait for Todd to come back to number 11, and was ready to unleash his anger by the time an unsuspecting Todd came through the door having stopped off at the kebab shop on the way.

Todd told him: "We had such a laugh, you really should've come down the pub, George and Glenda were telling the most outrageous stories!" As he tried to plate their takeaway up, Theo said: "I don't want your stinking food! Do you know how many calories are in that? The garbage you put in your body, it's disgusting!"

Todd, clearly confused by Theo's behaviour, pointed out that Theo had offered to take him to the cafe for a pie earlier and Theo retorted: "That's only because that's what you like. Greasy, fatty clogging up your arteries. Then you come back here whenever you want pretending that you care.

"You haven't thought about me once tonight! You've been down the pub having a laugh, I have been sitting me on my own."

Todd reasoned to Theo that he had asked him to come, but Theo shouted: "I don't want to sit in a booth with Billy and Nina and George and Christina, having a laugh, whipping it up. Nina put the photos online. You don't care about how my mediation went!" Todd, getting ever more desperate, protested: "I asked if you wanted me to come home, and you said no. I would have!"

The shouting continued, and Theo took things up a notch by grabbing Todd and telling him coldly: "Don't you touch me with those dirty stinking hands. I don't want you touching my face ever again. God, you stink! You stink of dirty, filthy meat."

In a disturbing end to the episode, Theo grabbed Todd and forced the kebab into his mouth as he told him: "You're a grubby little man. I have packed my stuff, and I'm leaving. I don't ever want to see you again," before storming out, slamming the door behind him and leaving a distraught Todd to clean himself up.

Coronation Street runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1. Episodes can also be downloaded on ITVX.
