Tyson Fury's cousin was viciously dropped on the way to suffering his first professional defeat. Walter Fury started his boxing career little over a year ago at super-welterweight and enjoyed a perfect record across his first three fights.
But facing his latest test on Friday night in Liverpool on Frank Warren's latest Lights Out fight card, Fury was tasked with fighting Kristaps Zulgis. The Latvian journeyman had racked up a career record of 9-59-3 in his six years in the sport.
Zulgis came into the bout having dispatched his previous opponent, Jack Oliphant, in the opening round but lost 32 consecutive bouts, per tapology, before that victory. But Zulgis was able to build on the momentum earned from knocking down Fury early doors to claim a decision win and earn successive victories for the first time since 2022.
Fury was caught out by the early knockdown and looked puzzled as he made his way back onto his feet as the count reached two. But the Gypsy King's cousin was unable to find his way fully back into the contest as fell to a 38-37 defeat on the judges' scorecards
Promoter Frank Warrenreckons the 28-year-old will learn from his first loss and come back stronger however. The Queensberry found offered plenty of sport to the fighter.

"Unlucky to Walter Fury tonight against a difficult opponent in Liverpool," he said on social media. "He will learn from this no doubt and come back stronger. We will be behind our man all the way."
There are no shortage of professional fighting members of the Fury family. Tyson's siblings Tommy and Roman still hold unbeaten records of 11-0 and 5-0 respectively.
And cousins Hughie Fury, James Dean, Nathan Gorman and Horsea Burton are all active professional boxers. Hughie previously challenged for the WBO heavyweight title but fell to a majority decision against Joseph Parker in 2017.
Another cousin, Andy Lee, won the WBO middleweight title in 2014 with a sixth-round knockout of Matvey Korobov. But it is Tyson who has earned most success as he found glory in the heavyweight division.
The 36-year-old appears set for a return to the sport too, despite retiring after back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. It was revealed that Fury would make a comeback next year.
Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh announced: "The 'Gypsy King' will be back!!! I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026...We have a rabbit to hunt!"
Fury echoed Alalshikh's post on his Instagram story, teasing fans with the note: "Let's see what 2026 brings," accompanied by a string of dollar sign and laughing face emojis.
