After the Indian government banned 25 apps accused of spreading pornographic content—including ALTT (formerly ALTBalaji)—producer Ekta Kapoor has issued a strong clarification distancing herself from the platform.
In a statement released on 25 July 2025, Ekta Kapoor said that she and her mother Shobha Kapoor ended their association with ALTT in 2021 and that ALTT is no longer a part of Balaji Telefilms.
Why Did the Government Ban These Apps?"To Whomsoever It May Concern," she wrote in a formal note shared on X, adding that Balaji Telefilms complies with all legal norms and any links made between her company and ALTT today are “completely wrong.”
The Ministry of Electronics and IT banned 25 apps for allegedly streaming explicit content and showing objectionable portrayals of family relationships. Apps such as ULLU, Navarasa, Gulab App, and ALTT were targeted for violating public decency standards and spreading obscenity.
Ekta’s Earlier Stance on ALTTEkta Kapoor had earlier spoken about her intention behind launching the ALT platform—to create space for stories that broke societal taboos. But she admitted in earlier interviews that the platform's direction soon spiraled beyond her control.
With the government crackdown now underway, Ekta Kapoor’s clarification aims to protect her and Balaji’s image from being linked to controversial content that surfaced on the app in recent years.
