Author Arundhati Roy's anti-India statement, in which she praised Pakistan, has sparked controversy. Roy alleged that the Indian government is carrying out military operations against its own citizens in several states, including Kashmir and Manipur. She described Pakistan as superior, saying it does not do so.
New Delhi: Writer Arundhati Roy has once again made a venomous statement against India, after which a fierce battle has erupted from social media to the political world. People have given a befitting reply to Arundhati Roy. Actually, Arundhati Roy praised Pakistan while criticizing India. People have called this statement of Arundhati as anti-national.
Poison against India and praise for Pakistan
Arundhati Roy said that in many Indian states, the government has waged a permanent war against its own people since independence. Especially in Kashmir, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Telangana, Punjab, Kashmir, Goa and Hyderabad, the military has been set up against its own citizens. But Pakistan is better than this, which does not set up a military against its own people.
Sharing the video, author Anand Ranganathan wrote on X, "This is what happens when indomitable cannabis meets unstoppable hallucinations." He further wrote that according to Arundhati Roy, the liberation of Goa by India in 1961 was actually a war waged by an upper-caste Hindu state against Christians.

Former foreign secretary criticized
Later, former Indian Foreign Secretary and current JNU Chancellor Kanwal Sibal re-shared Anand Ranganathan's post and criticised Roy's statements, calling them venomous and blatantly anti-Hindu towards her own country. He accused her of supporting terrorism against the Indian state and said that she was blatantly distorting the truth to further her deeply communal and chauvinistic agenda. Sibal challenged Roy's Pakistan example and referred to Pakistan's many military operations against its own people.
Pakistan has also deployed military against its own people: Sibal
Former Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal said that I challenge Arundhati Roy's statement in which she said that Pakistan is not using its army against its people. Sibal gave examples of many operations for this.
- Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan (2014)
- Operation Rahat-e-Nijat in Southern Wajistan (2009)
- Musharraf's 2006 campaign against Baloch insurgents, including the use of artillery against Nawab Akbar Bugti.
- Operation Azm-e-Istehkam (2024), ongoing counter-terrorism operation
