Liverpool will be without their star goalkeeper Alisson for Sunday's clash with Manchester United at Anfield. The Brazilian ace missed the defeat at Chelsea prior to the international break after sustaining an injury during the Champions League loss to Galatasaray. He subsequently withdrew from Brazil duty.
Now, he is set to miss the visit of United, with Giorgi Mamardashvili expected to step in as his replacement. Alisson won't return for the midweek Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt, nor for next weekend's journey to Brentford.
"Alisson is not training with us, so he's out," conceded Arne Slot. "Like I always say, it's so difficult to say [how long he will be out], because the end phase of rehab can always give you positives and negatives. But he will not play this weekend, and also not next week."
Ryan Gravenberch has fully recovered from a hamstring issue, Slot confirmed, and is set to play this weekend. Likewise, French centre-back Ibrahima Konate is expected to join his team-mates in training on Friday.
Gravenberch played 45 minutes in the Netherlands' 4-0 victory over Finland on Sunday before being taken off at half-time as a precaution. Konate was sent back from France duty with a muscle problem, discovered after the defeat at Stamford Bridge.
"Ryan is completely fit," Slot added." Although we still have to train twice, but if you ask me now he is completely fit.
"We are in a good place with the Dutch national team. If Ronald Koeman can make a decision to either play Tijani Reijnders or Ryan Gravenberch.
"So he played them both for 45 minutes. Ibou (Konate) has come back to us and has started his sessions again and is expected to train with us today."
Slot also confirmed that he will continue to make changes to his team selection over the next few weeks, as the Premier League and Champions League calendars ramp up.
"Interesting one, we need to bring some players towards playing time but you cannot do none to three in a week, so we had a few of them that led to changes in the team," Slot continued.
"Every team has to face schedules like this so we have more than 11 players. If we rotate you have to play more with the same players. Almost impossible to play players in the same position every game, as has happened with some players.
"You have to find the balance, the ones we have have been together for longer. We have Alex [Isak] and Hugo [Ekitike] as nines, who both know what to do in our system. I like I have more than 11 to play games."
