A man was found dead in a detached house in northern Munich early Wednesday following reports of multiple explosions and gunfire, German daily Bild reported. This incident led to a major emergency response on Tuesday by the police and firefighters. Residents were asked to stay away from the Lerchenau area.
According to preliminary information, the man suspectedly rigged his parents' home with explosives, set it ablaze, and then took his own life. Another individual was also found with gunshot injuries , Bild reported. Though the circumstances surrounding those injuries remain unclear, Bild added
Police and fire department , backed by special task forces and bomb disposal experts, were reportedly operating in the area for several hours. Authorities have sealed off the area for extensive police and firefighter operations. However, a police spokesperson stressed that there is currently no threat to the public and they are safe.
Police spokesperson Thomas Schelshorn said there was “no current danger to the public” and stressed there was “no connection to the Oktoberfest,” the world-famous beer festival currently underway in Munich, reported DW .
However, the road around the incident site remains heavily cordoned off and a school in the area will remain shut down as investigations continue.
